Meet the Ungers

Welcome to our website!*  We’ll start off by telling you a little bit about ourselves.  We are with Mission Aviation Fellowship of Canada, serving in East Africa under MAF International as of September 2006.  We both grew up in Nairobi, Kenya as children of missionaries, where we lived until we graduated from high school at Rosslyn Academy.  Ryan’s dad was a teacher at Rosslyn, and Kristen’s parents are with the World Mission Prayer League and were on loan to SIM-Kenya.

When Kristen was young, her family lived in Samburu District, a remote area of northern Kenya.  Her parents put in an airstrip close to their house so that planes could come in case of emergencies, or if they needed supplies. So Kristen’s connection with mission aviation goes back a long time!  Ryan became interested in aviation in middle school—he began to spend much time building and flying remote controlled planes.  Towards the end of high school he realized that he could use his passion for aviation to serve the Lord, and decided to become a missionary pilot.

After high school, Ryan went on to attend Providence College in Otterburne, Manitoba, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Mission Aviation.  Kristen went to Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and double-majored in French and Teaching English as a Foreign Language.  We were married on August 21, 2004, and lived in Steinbach, Manitoba, where Ryan worked as a flight instructor at Harv’s Air Service while Kristen completed the immigration process (the permanent residency part).  In September 2006 we moved to Nairobi, Kenya, with MAF.

We are excited to be back in East Africa!  We definitely sense that this is where God wants us to be right now.
